tuning

What is A44?  A44 refers to the 49th note from the bass end of the scale which is called A and has a frequency of 440 double beats per second. Adopted in North America and Europe as the standard pitch.

What is tuning?  Tuning is the meticulous adjustment of tension to the approximately 200 strings in a piano. First starting with the octive F to F thru middle C (tenor). This octive is equal tempered to achieve the highest musical purity. From this octive, the rest of the instrument is tuned. Pianos that have been neglected often need to be stretched back up to pitch before starting the regular tuning process.

What does it cost?  The cost of tuning depends on how frequently the piano has been tuned. The following are also considered; humidity of location, season and condition of the tuning block.

How often does my piano need tuning? Normally once a year will an average piano in pitch and reasonably in tune if performed between the first of October and last of June. However due to the humidity factor in August and September, tuning should be avoided. Of course if the piano is only used during this time of year, or if it is absolutely necessary to have the instrument in exact pitch, tuning would be warranted.
